This is another one of those articles (the Star) that really make me wonder how bad things really are here.
Najib to lead roadshow on Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR: Around 50 fund managers from the world’s largest investment and hedge funds will gather in Singapore early next week for a roadshow that will trumpet Malaysia’s success in restructuring its economy and the opportunities available under the Ninth Malaysia Plan.
I thought with Visit Malaysia Year going on full blast – we would be wooing the fund managers in KL and not in Singapore. After all its only a 45 minute hop over by air. To be fair, maybe the organizers are Singaporeans and we are just leveraging on their event. Well this is what the Star said:
“We feel the timing is right to raise the international profile of Malaysia and its capital markets, given foreign investors’ renewed interest in the country,” said an official of the roadshow organisers, ECM Libra Avenue and Credit Suisse.
I guess I was wrong, organizers are not Singaporean but our own ECM Libra Avenue….. Maybe the investors are not really keen on Malaysia and the nearest they would come is to Singapore. Well this is what the Star said:
These investors, he said, were encouraged by the success of the restructuring of government-linked companies, deregulation, continued appreciation of the ringgit, Malaysia’s rising foreign exchange reserves and high commodity prices, as well as stable political environment.
I guess “encouraged by the successes” is not enough to get them to KL. After all, these are no small fry investors. They are:
These “big boys”, who control probably half of the world’s investment and hedge funds, would get first-hand information on Malaysia’s potential from a top level team led by the Deputy Prime Minister.
So who else is off to Singapore:
Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s delegation will include Second Finance Minister Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop, Bank Negara deputy governor Datuk Ooi Sang Kuang and Khazanah Malaysia Bhd managing director Datuk Azman Mokhtar.
Well, all the best of luck to the delegation… remember you are there to “Sell Malaysia” metaphorically and not literally.
Tengku Adnan has finally spoken up about is women bashing comments here.
His words are:
KUALA LUMPUR: Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has clarified that he did not label all women bloggers as liars.
He said his statement was specifically made in reference to an Indonesian journalist who wrote in her blog about the ministry’s inefficiency.
Now that he has made specific who he was calling a liar, I would like 2 things to happen:
a: Tengku Adnan get Sin Chew to apologies for smearing his name, what the heck, just sue them….
b. To start the ball rolling, for Nila Tanzil to sue Tengku Adnan for defamation. I mean the right honorable Minister has specifically called her a liar for God’s sake.
It is still an insult to all women and bloggers but that is another story. We need closure on this.
I am not a litigious person but, every time I see the people whom the rakyaat’s voted in with the largest majority ever get slandered, I feel they (the ministers) should fight back to straighten the record.be it about the Cobra Sultan, of now Nila Tanzil… The trust must surface.
I wonder what my fellow bloggers out there think? Shouldn’t we be encouraging the truth to be told?
I tried looking for an article that appeared in Malaysia today on Tengku Adnan that was from the NST but I cant seem to find it in the NST. The Google link reads as follows:
New Straits Times – Malaysia News Online

Tourism Minister refuses to respond to accusations that he called all bloggers liarsThe Straits Times
Malaysia’s tourism minister refused to respond on Monday to accusations that he had insulted women by reportedly saying that Internet bloggers are liars, and many are jobless women.
The Chinese-language newspaper Sin Chew Jit Poh quoted Tourism Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor as saying last week that “All bloggers are liars, they cheat people using all kinds of methods.
From my understanding, out of 10,000 unemployed bloggers, 8,000 are women.”
The report sparked a storm of criticism among Malaysian bloggers, including former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad’s daughter, Marina Mahathir, who called Tengku Adnan’s reported remarks an “unbelievable bit of foot-stomping” by “a supposedly sober person in high office.”
The tourism minister reportedly made the comments in response to questions by reporters about criticisms of Malaysian tourism authorities contained in an Indonesian broadcast journalist’s blog.
On Monday, Tengku Adnan refused to comment or confirm whether he had been quoted accurately by the newspaper.
“I don’t have anything to say right now,” Tengku Adnan told The Associated Press.
Freelance writer Susan Loone said in an open letter to Tengku Adnan that his reported comments were “highly demeaning’” and seemed to reflect the ideas of a “woman hater.”
“Women these days are different. We don’t merely sit around looking pretty,” Ms Loone wrote in her blog. “We work, take care of the family, write, blog, ask questions, analyse, create, invent, and a million other things.”
or is the straits times the Singapore paper?
Hell has no fury like a woman scorned
Origin: William Congreve, in The mourning bride, 1697:
As you’ll answer it, take heed
This Slave commit no Violence upon
Himself. I’ve been deceiv’d. The Publick Safety
Requires he should be more confin’d; and none,
No not the Princes self, permitted to
Confer with him. I’ll quit you to the King.
Vile and ingrate! too late thou shalt repent
The base Injustice thou hast done my Love:
Yes, thou shalt know, spite of thy past Distress,
And all those Ills which thou so long hast mourn’d;
Heav’n has no Rage, like Love to Hatred turn’d,
Nor Hell a Fury, like a Woman scorn’d.
Tengku, what about this one? Another lie right?
Common man, you gotta say something…..
Don’t let me down, please. Cant let these lyng women bloggers push you around.
Be a Man!
Bankruptcy Notice Served On Tengku Adnan
PUTRAJAYA, Dec 2 (Bernama) — Aseam Credit Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Malayan Banking Berhad, has served a bankruptcy notice on Member of Parliament for Putrajaya Datuk Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor through law firm Messrs Paul Chong & Nathan.
It was issued by the High Court in Kuala Lumpur on Jan 13 this year and extended for 12 months from April 13.
An advertisement of the notice was published in The Star Friday giving the former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department 21 days to apply to the court to set aside the notice, failing which he might be sued for bankruptcy.
Contacted by Bernama about the notice, Tengku Adnan said: “My lawyers are looking into it.
Dear Tengku Adnan, I really cant stand what those darn blogging liars are saying of you. Did you see what was posted here.
Just in case the link doesn’t work, let me copy the article and paste it here and I hope the authors don’t sue me for plagiarism or something like that.
Can you please stand up and clarify your good name. How dare they say all these things about you. After all we voted you into power to represent us. Imagine how stupid and cheated we would feel if this was true!
Tengku Adnan bin Tengku Mansor, Tourism Minister in Pak Lah’s cabinet (Pak Lah – father of Islam Hadhari and grand son to famous ulama’ Haji Abdullah Fahim) proposed to the government recently to extend operating hours for entertainment outlets in Kuala Lumpur (so apparently tourists have complained to him that KL is dead after 2 and there is nowhere to go, according to him during a Mesyuarat Bahagian). He also proposed to the cabinet reduction of duty on alcohol. Damn, he might as well make liquor the official drink for Supreme Council meetings.
So who is this guy anyway? Dato’ Adnan was born in Malacca on 20th December 1950 at 610h, birth certificate no. 100502. Name at birth was Adnan bin Mansor. On 20th December 1962, Dato’ Adnan was 12 and a proud owner of an IC (IC no. 4079409). However, on 3rd October 1972, Dato’ Adnan had changed his name to Tengku Adnan bin Tengku Mansor. He also changed his dad’s IC name to Tengku Mansor bin Tengku Baba. Claims to be Malacca’s 3rd generation Sultanate heritage.
Dato’ Adnan was once Tun M’s Setiausaha Kerja UMNO. Dato’ Adnan, a businessman, was known to be Tan Sri Vincent Tan’s favorite go-to guy for projects. Word on the street is that Dato’ Adnan has 3.5million shares in Berjaya Sports Toto via his SPV, Cimsec Nominees Sdn Bhd. Sports Toto has a total of 681 outlets nationwide and 2 overseas operations, one in Phillipines and the other in Ghana. Once upon a time, Dato’ Adnan, Tan Sri Vincent and Pahang State Govt through an SPV called PASDEC Holding Berhad used to own Bukit Tinggi Resort. After fierce pressure from the public, he relinquished his shares on 23rd May 2003.
So, you’ve got a respectable Prime Minister going all around the world promoting Islam and you’ve got this Minister under him going around screwing things up for PM. Well, one can argue that he was dropped at the last election and was called back to the Cabinet after the reshuffling. Don’t know what the end game is.
Well if anyone wants to argue about his ‘tengku’ness, notice that officially, his dato’ seri title precedes his tengku title. That tells it all.
Looking forward to your clarification.
Dear Tengku Adnan,
According to some women bloggers here, here, here, you have called them liars and cheats and are anti unity….
Unfortunately, this was reported in the Sin Chew (Chinese) paper of which I can’t read and don’t understand. But since the article is being reported by bloggers, who you, a Minister in the Malaysian Cabinet, have classified as liars, obviously I cannot trust what they are saying.
So Tengku, would you care to please have the NST or STAR run the article in English so I can read what you really said? (preferably the STAR please because I don’t buy the NST anymore)
Looking forward to your clarification soonest possible.
